Our Learning Environment and Curriculum
Here at The Toddler House Nursery we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum which is supported by a blended range of childhood philosophies and pedagogies such as Reggio Emilia.
In this way research suggests that a balance of approaches gives children the very best opportunity of effective learning along with a teaching process that supports them. Skilled staff observe and build upon the interests, skills, abilities and knowledge of children in a unique, inspiring and creative teaching methodology.
Our early literacy strategy is well balanced between adult and child led activities and combines approaches that support the development of skills, knowledge and understanding. We deliver a range of programmes to support early language and literacy such as the Welcomme language screening tool, Early Talk Boost, Write Dance and our extended learning group.
Our environment is natural, light and airy with low level mirrors and display boards. Children are able to move freely between rooms filled with lovingly chosen bespoke furniture, resources and diverse, curious and cultural objects. Children have opportunities to acquire skills in horticulture, cooking, woodwork, art, yoga, dancing and playing musical instruments.
Many of the broad and diverse activities we deliver are ‘real’ and allow children first-hand experiences with elements of risk and challenge.
Outside is an extension of the beautiful learning environment indoors with opportunities to observe nature, grow fruit, vegetables, flowers, play in the mud kitchens, hide in our two-storey cottage or role-play with friends in our little wooden shop.
Our sensory room allows children to explore their visual, auditory and tactile processing as well as fine and gross motor skills. By providing a sense of calm and comfort the sensory room help children to self -regulate their behaviour and ultimately their focus.
